How to move your Wix website to WordPress

Plan a Wix to WordPress move: keep your design, review blog posts and images, replace Wix services and check your links before launch.

By AnythingTo · Updated

Moving from Wix means rebuilding your website for WordPress, then checking its content and the features your visitors use. Your design and public pages are a starting point; bookings, payments, member access and private records need their own plan.

Can you export a Wix website to WordPress?

Wix says its websites rely on Wix hosting and cannot simply be moved to another host. A domain registered elsewhere does not change that. Moving to WordPress requires a new WordPress version of the site, rather than uploading the Wix website as a theme.

AnythingTo starts from your published Wix address to bring across the design and content it can find. Check the result against a list of the pages you need. Do not assume a public-page conversion also moves everything stored in your Wix account.

Make a list of pages, posts and essential features

Start with your homepage, service pages, contact page and blog. Include campaign pages that may not appear in the navigation. Save examples of how important pages look on a phone and a larger screen, so you can compare them later.

List what visitors do as well as what they read. A salon may depend on bookings; a shop may depend on checkout; a membership site may depend on private access. Decide what will replace these services before scheduling the move.

  • Record the addresses of pages that bring enquiries or sales.
  • Count blog posts and note their titles, dates and images.
  • Keep original image files where you have them.
  • List forms, bookings, payments and member areas separately.

Check the design and try everyday edits

Open the WordPress preview beside your Wix site. Compare the header, page sections, image crops, fonts and spacing. Try a narrow screen too: a page can look right on a laptop while a menu or heading is awkward on a phone.

Then try the changes your team normally makes. Replace a photo, update service text and change a button destination. Wix sections may keep their overall arrangement while allowing text and image updates. If you want to rearrange individual elements or redesign a section, discuss that work separately.

Arrange replacements for Wix services

Wix Stores checkout, Bookings and Members areas do not transfer as working services through the website conversion. Decide whether to use WordPress tools or keep a separate service, then check the complete visitor experience.

For a booking flow, try selecting a service and time, completing the booking and receiving the confirmation. For a contact form, send an enquiry and check the inbox that should receive it. Keep existing customer and transaction records available while you plan how to handle them; do not place private records in a public conversion request.

Keep important links working when you launch

Compare the old page addresses with the new ones. If a page moves, arrange a redirect to its matching replacement and test an old link. Review page titles and descriptions on key pages, as well as images and content. A move can affect search visibility even when redirects are in place.

Connect your domain only when the new pages and essential services are ready. Keep access to Wix until you have checked the live site and know how to switch back if something important fails. Moving a website does not require moving your email at the same time.

Get started with your Wix site

Share your published Wix address and tell us which pages and services matter most. If the site is private, ask about your options rather than making private content public just for the move.

AnythingTo is in beta. New visitors can describe their site and leave an email for follow-up. Existing account holders can sign in, convert and review the result. Use the Wix converter page for the current scope, and the migration SEO checklist to plan your launch.
