Webflow code export vs WordPress conversion
Understand what a Webflow ZIP gives you, what a WordPress theme adds, and which content and services need a separate migration plan.
By AnythingTo · Updated
A Webflow export gives you website files. A WordPress conversion also gives your team a way to update pages, publish articles and add new content. Choose based on who will maintain the site and the edits they need to make.
What does the Webflow export contain?
Webflow documents code export as HTML, stylesheets, JavaScript and assets. It also lists exclusions, including CMS functionality, form processing and ecommerce functionality. An export is useful input or a backup, but it does not give you a ready-to-edit WordPress site.

Compare what you get
| Question | Website export | WordPress conversion |
|---|---|---|
| Where does the layout live? | HTML files and stylesheets | Your WordPress theme and included images |
| How does an editor change a heading? | Edit the file or add a CMS | Edit the heading in WordPress |
| How are new collection items added? | Requires a separate content system | Add a new item in WordPress |
| Do forms and checkout migrate automatically? | No; arrange replacement services | No; test or rebuild each service |
| Is launch ready after copying the files? | Still needs hosting and checks | Still needs content and behavior checks |
When a URL-based conversion is useful
A published URL lets AnythingTo read the pages as visitors see them, including linked collection item pages. That can be useful when your available export does not contain the rendered content. It still does not provide direct access to the source CMS database.
The difference matters for unpublished records, private fields, hidden variants and item counts. Keep a content inventory and compare the result against it. A crawler can only work with content it can reach, and a successful preview is not evidence that an entire database has moved.
Decide what editors should control
Before choosing a route, ask who maintains the site. A developer updating a small static brochure has different needs from an agency handing over a site where a client publishes articles every week. The right result should make common edits predictable.
Your team can update content and page sections in WordPress, but the editor will differ from Webflow. If you want to redesign pages by dragging individual elements, discuss that requirement before migrating.
- For a portfolio, test creating a new project and adding its gallery.
- For a blog, test publishing an article and checking its listing.
- For a brochure site, test editing a shared header and a page section.
- For a shop, plan product, payment and order functionality separately.
Compare the whole migration effort
Include content review, interaction fixes, service setup, launch checks and future maintenance when estimating the work. A free export and a free conversion preview can both leave tasks that require time or specialist help.
